Tech support without the runaround

Most people don’t need a managed IT contract. They need someone reliable who picks up the phone, understands the problem, and fixes it without making it complicated.

That’s what Dreambytes does. I’m Tony Roberts — independent computer technician, based in Cheadle Hulme, covering homes and small businesses across Cheshire for over 30 years. No franchise, no junior engineers, no outsourcing. When you call, you get me.

Tech support means different things to different people. For a home user it might be a one-off fix — email that’s stopped working, a computer that won’t start, a new router that needs setting up. For a small business it might be keeping a handful of machines running reliably without the cost and commitment of a full IT contract.

Either way, the approach is the same: find out what’s actually wrong, fix it properly, tell you what happened in plain English.

What makes Dreambytes different

  • One point of contact — you always speak to the same person
  • No contracts or retainers — pay for what you need, when you need it
  • Remote-first where it makes sense — faster and cheaper for software issues
  • On-site when it doesn’t — hardware, network setup, hands-on problems
  • 30+ years experience — Windows, Mac, networking, email, Microsoft 365
  • No fix, no fee — you don’t pay if I can’t sort it

Who I work with

  • Home users — one-off fixes and advice
  • Home office workers — keeping work computers reliable
  • Small businesses — ongoing support, no contract required

How it works

Call or message with the problem. I’ll tell you whether remote support or a visit makes more sense, give you a quote, and get it sorted.

Laptop died and within an hour of my request for help, Tony outlined a plan of action and just half an hour later he’d been round and collected my computer to run a diagnostic check. Owing to the bizarre design of my Dell (hard drive soldered directly to the motherboard) and Tony’s best efforts to create a workaround, it was irreparable. However, amazingly, Tony managed to retrieve all my data! He offered to drop my desktop and files onto one of his spare laptops and dropped it off (on Saturday) so I could continue working until a replacement laptop could be sourced. He gave me recommendations (with replaceable hard drives!) and eventually he moved all my data onto my new computer. It was without doubt the most efficient, effective and helpful professional service I’ve ever had. Tony went above and beyond to ensure my issue was resolved quickly and with the minimum of drama. He’s a really nice friendly guy too. Rest assured, if you have a problem with your computer, you won’t find anyone better to fix it. Highly recommended.

Excellent service from Tony. He was professional, knowledgeable and kept me informed throughout the repair process. His diagnostics were thorough, he explained everything clearly, and it was obvious he genuinely cared about finding the correct faults rather than simply replacing parts unnecessarily. Highly recommended.

Tech support for every situation

The problems are different depending on who you are and how you use your computer. Here’s how I approach each.

Home users

Computers, laptops, tablets and smart devices. One-off problems fixed without drama — slow machines, internet dropouts, email chaos, Windows doing something inexplicable.

Most home jobs are resolved remotely or in a single visit. You get a straight answer, a fixed price, and it works when I’m done.

Home office

Working from home puts different pressure on your setup — VPNs, video calls, Microsoft 365, cloud storage, printers that only work sometimes. When your work computer fails, you can’t afford to wait.

I prioritise home office calls and can often fix software issues remotely the same day.

Small business

A small business doesn’t need a managed IT contract — it needs someone competent, available, and honest about what things actually cost. That’s the gap I fill for businesses across Cheshire.

No monthly fees, no minimum terms. Call when something needs fixing, or discuss a regular arrangement if that suits you better.

Remote support — fastest for software problems

A significant number of tech support calls never need a visit. Email problems, Windows faults, Microsoft 365 issues, slow performance, account lockouts — these can often be resolved remotely while you watch.

Remote support is cheaper, faster, and available to customers anywhere in Cheshire. I connect securely, fix the problem, and disconnect. You stay in control throughout.

More about remote computer repair

On-site support — when you need someone there

Some problems need physical access — network setup, hardware faults, new equipment installation, or anything where being on-site just makes more sense than trying to talk someone through it remotely.

I cover homes and businesses across Cheshire for on-site visits. I’ll always tell you honestly whether remote or on-site is the right call for your situation — I’m not going to charge for a visit if remote would sort it faster.

Frequently asked questions — tech support Cheshire

Do you offer tech support without a contract?

Yes. No contracts, no retainers, no monthly fees unless you want a regular arrangement. Most customers just call when something needs fixing — that’s absolutely fine.

How do I know if my problem can be fixed remotely?

Describe the problem when you get in touch and I’ll tell you straight away. Software, email, Windows and account issues usually suit remote support well. Hardware faults and network setup generally need a visit or the machine in my workshop.

What areas of Cheshire do you cover?

I’m based in Cheadle Hulme and cover Cheadle, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Bramhall, Stockport, Gatley, Poynton, Woodford and surrounding areas for on-site visits. Remote support is available anywhere.

Is Dreambytes suitable for small business support?

Yes. I work with sole traders, home offices and small businesses across Cheshire. No contract required — call when you need something fixing. If you want a more regular arrangement, I’m happy to discuss it.

How much does tech support cost?

It depends on the problem. I give you a fixed-price quote before any chargeable work starts. Remote support is often cheaper than an on-site visit for software issues. No fix, no fee.

Do you support Macs as well as Windows PCs?

Yes. Windows PCs, laptops and Apple Macs. Let me know the make, model and what it’s doing when you get in touch.

Get tech support across Cheshire

Describe the problem — what’s happening, the device make and model if you know it, and roughly where you are. I’ll come back with a straight answer on how to fix it and what it’ll cost.

No obligation. If it’s something I can’t help with, I’ll tell you.
