Dreambytes is based right here in Cheadle Hulme — this is where I live, where my workshop is, and where I’ve been repairing computers for over 30 years.

If your laptop or PC has developed a fault — slow, crashing, won’t boot, physically damaged, virus-infected, or just behaving strangely — I can usually diagnose the problem the same day and give you a clear, honest explanation of what it needs and what it will cost.

I’m Tony Roberts. When you call or message, you speak to me directly — the person who does the work. No call centre, no scripts, no ticket system.

If you’re looking for local computer repairs in Cheadle Hulme, you won’t find a showroom or a high-street counter here. You’ll deal directly with me: I diagnose the fault, carry out the repair, and collect and return your computer anywhere across SK8. High-street computer shops can offer a counter and a queue; what I offer is a more personal service, where you speak directly to the person actually repairing your machine – something the bigger computer stores can’t offer.

Why customers across SK8 choose Dreambytes

  • Workshop on your doorstep — based in Cheadle Hulme, not a remote depot
  • 30+ years hands-on experience — hardware, software, networking, data recovery
  • Fixed-price quotes — agreed before any chargeable work starts
  • Collection & return — I collect from your home or office and return once repaired
  • Honest assessment — if it’s not worth repairing, I’ll tell you before you spend money

Workshop repairs, done properly

My workshop is here in Cheadle Hulme — equipped for everything from laptop screen replacements to motherboard-level diagnostics. This isn’t a bedroom operation and it isn’t a faceless depot.

Every repair follows the same process:

  • Proper diagnosis — I identify the actual fault, not just the symptom
  • Clear explanation — what’s wrong, what it needs, and what it costs
  • Quality parts — matched correctly to your device
  • Tested before return — you get it back working, not hoping
  • No pressure — if it’s not worth repairing, I’ll tell you honestly

How it works

  1. Get in touch — call 0161 428 8882 or use the form below. Describe the symptoms and I’ll give you an honest first assessment.
  2. Collection & return — Due to the unpredictable nature of repair work and the time I spend working on-site, workshop drop-offs are not currently available. I offer a free collection and return service across Cheshire instead.
  3. Diagnosis — proper fault-finding at my workshop. You get a clear explanation and a fixed-price quote before any chargeable work.
  4. Repair — completed and tested once you approve the quote.
  5. Return — collect from the workshop or I deliver back to you.

Tip: If the device is physically damaged (screen, hinge, charging port), try not to force it — that often makes the repair harder and more expensive.

Laptop died and within an hour of my request for help, Tony outlined a plan of action and just half an hour later he’d been round and collected my computer to run a diagnostic check. Owing to the bizarre design of my Dell (hard drive soldered directly to the motherboard) and Tony’s best efforts to create a workaround, it was irreparable. However, amazingly, Tony managed to retrieve all my data! He offered to drop my desktop and files onto one of his spare laptops and dropped it off (on Saturday) so I could continue working until a replacement laptop could be sourced. He gave me recommendations (with replaceable hard drives!) and eventually he moved all my data onto my new computer. It was without doubt the most efficient, effective and helpful professional service I’ve ever had. Tony went above and beyond to ensure my issue was resolved quickly and with the minimum of drama. He’s a really nice friendly guy too. Rest assured, if you have a problem with your computer, you won’t find anyone better to fix it. Highly recommended.

Great service, quick and a decent price.

On-site support (when it makes sense)

Some issues are best resolved at your home or office — Wi-Fi problems, printer setup, email configuration, new computer setup, or basic troubleshooting.

If the fault needs extended testing, parts, or careful strip-down work, I’ll recommend a workshop repair instead. That’s usually faster and more cost-effective.

I’ll always tell you which approach makes more sense for your specific problem.

Remote support (where appropriate)

For software issues, email problems, slow performance, and some Windows faults, I can often fix the problem remotely — without collecting the machine at all.

If remote support is the quickest option for your issue, I’ll tell you. No unnecessary callouts, no unnecessary expense.

Frequently asked questions — Cheadle Hulme

How much does computer repair in Cheadle Hulme cost?

Costs depend on the fault. Software issues are often cheaper than hardware repairs. I give you a clear, fixed-price quote once I’ve diagnosed the problem — no obligation, no pressure.

How quickly can you turn things around?

Many common repairs are completed the same day or within 24–48 hours. If parts are needed, turnaround depends on availability — I’ll confirm the timeline before any work starts.

Can I drop the device off at your workshop?

Due to the unpredictable nature of repair work and the time I spend working on-site, workshop drop-offs are not currently available. I offer a free collection and return service across Cheshire instead.

Do you repair Macs as well as PCs?

Yes. I work on Windows PCs, laptops, and Apple Macs. Let me know the make and model when you get in touch and I’ll advise on the best approach.

Do repairs fail again?

Most repeat failures are caused by incorrect diagnosis or cheap parts. I diagnose the underlying issue properly, use quality parts, and test before return — that’s how you avoid repeat problems.

Do you offer business and home office support?

Yes. Many of my Cheadle Hulme customers work from home or run small businesses. I prioritise business-critical faults and can discuss ongoing support arrangements — no contracts, no lock-in.
